Melissa is a first generation college student. She received her B.A. in Psychology. Melissa began working with children 10 years ago, starting off as a Teacher’s Assistant with LAUSD. She worked with elementary aged children assisting them with support as needed in classroom settings. During her time with LAUSD she transitioned to a Special Education Assistant where she worked 1 on 1 with student with special needs and their family for support. It was here when she realized she wanted to get into more depth working with children and their families; going on to pursue her master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. During her traineeship, Melissa’s work focused on working with children with depression, anxiety, loss and grief, and immigration status concerns. She joined The Help Group family in February 2020. As an associate in Marriage and Family therapy, she is working as a School-Based Therapist counseling children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Emotional Disturbance, ADHD, and Trauma. Melissa also gained slight experience working at The Help Group’s residential treatment facility, Project 6, counseling the residents and their families.
