Admissions

Introduction

North Hills Preparatory student population is composed of students with at least average intelligence, who, for various reasons, cannot or have not achieved their potential in mainstream educational environments. Students are referred to North Hills Preparatory from many different sources:

1. Funded students, with Individual Education Plans, are referred to North Hills Preparatory by the non-public school divisions of various districts.

2. Private students identified as gifted or talented, whose parents want them to be in a more nurturing, individualized academic setting are appropriate for admission.

3. Private students from the entertainment industry that are in need of flexible, creative curriculum to meet their academic needs on set or location are appropriate for admission.

North Hills Preparatory is not staffed to serve students who require extensive supervision either medically, behaviorally, or academically. Specific conditions excluding admission include: a history of serious assaultive behavior, arson, active gang involvement and medical problems that require professional staff.

An initial interview occurs when the student and parents meet with an administrator to take a tour of the school. At this time it is decided whether or not it would be appropriate for the student to spend a two day trial visit. During these two days the student will also meet with a representative of the counseling department, the Director of Special Education, and the Dean of Students. After the visit, a consensus is taken from the faculty and if the student is accepted, an admissions date is set through the Director of Education.

The visit is scheduled by the Director of Education. The student is requested to bring all required, completed paperwork in order to review transcripts and identify curricular requirements.

For admissions information, contact (818) 894-8388.
