Goals and Objectives
Students will continue to work on short paragraph reading with related activities. Students will continue to spend at least 10 minutes reading silently and completing a reading log. Students will review the “Vowel Circle” and syllable rules. Students will continue to write sentences. Students will listen and follow along while teacher reads Golden Compass aloud; students will take notes. .
1.0 Students use their knowledge of word origins, letter-word relationships and context clues to determine meaning, sight words and new vocabulary.
2.0 Students will read grade-appropriate text to determine main ideas, arguments, and perspective. Students will use higher order thinking skills to make predictions and understand abstract concepts.

ESLRs
This Reading class will help ensure students who are looking to master academic content and apply what they have mastered to real-life situations. We want our students to understand and execute tasks appropriately and use their time wisely. This class will guide students toward confidence in reading and oral expression to help resolve conflicts verbally. Our goal is to help develop responsible citizens who respect people, property and contribute freely to the community.

Long-term assignments and projects
My long term goal for this class is to have each student feel confident to read with fluency, intonation and accuracy at their independent level. Each student will increase their sight vocabulary and improve their comprehension as well as improve their essay writing using all the components of the writing process.
