These individuals may benefit from weekly psychotherapy. Most long-term situations result from the funding of the student's IEP (Individualized Education Plan) for DIS (Designated Individual Service) Counseling. Counseling is also available for privately funded students at a low fee. Crisis Intervention: This is a short-term intervention in which the counselor helps the student to understand and resolve a crisis event. Other Services Referrals: To insure that our students and their families receive appropriate and adequate services, when appropriate, counselors will provide referrals to community agencies or individual private professionals. AB3632 Services: California Assembly Bill 3632 provides for additional mental health services that may be needed by California students. This referral is made by the DIS Counselor to the IEP team when the clinical services provided for in the student's IEP (i.e., DIS counseling) is not sufficient to meet the student's emotional and academic needs. This is not an emergency procedure; the evaluation process takes approximately 90 days before extended services may be provided through the Department of Mental Health. Services recommended by DMH may include outpatient psychiatric/medication, individual, family or group psychotherapy. Top of Page |
